JOB DESCRIPTION – ACCOUNTANT (Hybrid)

Reports To: Financial Controller
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the daily oversight of all accounting operations for Carnation Farms, ensuring all bookkeeping entries are accurate, creating and implementing accounting procedures, assisting with budgeting, cash management, preparing monthly financial reports, presenting / reviewing reports with management, compiling records for agency wide audit, assisting CPA with 990 tax preparation, filing monthly sales tax and managing assets and inventory.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight of Accounting Assistant’s management of Accounts Payable, purchase orders, credit card receipts / reconciliation and vendor records
- Review A/P Checks, and process ACH and credit card payments.
- Oversight and processing of all cash receipts including website orders, Farmstand sales, Sustainable AG department sales, donations, lease payments and any other cash receipts.
- Daily oversight of bank accounts and credit cards to ensure transactions are accurate and to monitor for fraudulent activity.
- Follow detailed monthly reconciliation process including reconciling bank accounts, A/P, A/R, G/L accounts, monthly JV entries, culinary reports, and preparation of farm event P&Ls.
- Assist with preparing monthly financial reports and monitoring costs against budgets.
- Assist with End of Month meetings to gather data on projections and present results to management.
- Assist Controller to create and maintain annual capital and operating budgets.
- Oversee reimbursements of assets purchased by the landlord or the maintenance reserve account.
- Prepare grant related budgets and reports.
- Oversee farm events and ensure safe handling of cash and credit card transactions.
- Oversight of POS system and I Pads for use in the Farmstand and AG depts. ensuring units are available and are in good working order.
- Work closely with CPA firm to compile, reconcile and complete annual agency audit.
- Work closely with CPA firm to compile, reconcile and complete 990 tax returns.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure that these procedures are being followed.
- Prepare the financial portion of the annual report and keep detailed records related to totals (we’re not doing this yet but hope we will in the future as most nonprofits do)
- Close out capital jobs, tag assets, record idle assets, record sales and disposals of assets; Maintain folders for all leased equipment.
- Take (or assist in taking) physical inventory of fixed assets.
- Function as a backup for payroll processing and oversee import of payroll data into accounting software.
- Assure that quarterly payroll taxes processed by payroll service are accurate.
- Prepare and file tax reports including state excise / B&O and property tax.
- Maintain inventory records of hay, farmstand and culinary, prepare reports and journal entries, and reconcile to ledger.
- Accurately interpret financial data per GAAP and consistently apply practices, procedures, and internal precedent decisions regarding all financial issues
Training and Experience:
- Business administration/accounting
- Expertise in cost accounting with 2 or more years’ experience in non-profit accounting
- Excellent computer skills with emphasis on use of QuickBooks
- Expertise in using Excel for spreadsheet design and analysis.
- Experienced in budgeting, cash flow projection, internal audits and assisting with 990 tax returns.
- Experience with preparation of quarterly tax reports.
- Excellent technical accounting
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience supervising accounting personnel preferred.

- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20lbs.
- Able to work at a desk / computer for several hours at a time.

Compensation and Benefits –
- Full medical, vision, dental, 401k, and excellent other benefits such as generous paid time off
- Salary Range, DOE – $70-75,000 annual
