Position Summary:

The Development Manager is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, retention, and acknowledgement activities in relation to private donor funding and foundation, corporate, and government grants. This individual will work in tandem with the Director of Finance to identify, write proposals, and track both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects. They will utilize the outlined growth plans of the Organization in order to organize a grant-writing schedule, and will be paramount in solicitation of private donations based on mission activities.

Reports to: Director of Finance

Duties and Underlying Tasks:

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, corporate, and government sources
  • Perform prospect research on foundations, corporations and government agencies to ascertain grant availability and Organization’s eligibility for grants
  • Coordinate with program staff and Director of Finance to create grant proposals for specific budgeted programs, equipment, and capital purchases as well as grants for unrestricted support
  • Work with Finance Team to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation/ government funders on current grant programs
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate/government donors
  • Develop a plan to broaden individual and corporate donor outreach including creating fundraising campaigns (e.g. GiveBig) and organizing mission-based fundraising events
  • Provide stewardship to current donors, including work with Directors & Marketing to provide regular written updates (newsletters, magazines, annual reports etc.) to donors
  • Make appointments for Director of Finance and Executive Director with foundation officers and other prospects
  • Conduct onsite tours for supporters and coordinate experiences and events for and to encourage donors
  • Coordinate employee volunteer service experiences for corporate grantors
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
  • Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, program attendance and evaluation metrics etc.)
  • Assist with Organization directional and marketing materials with Marketing and Leadership Team

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum three to five years’ experience with foundation grant writing and non-profit fundraising
  • Proven track record of fundraising from a variety of sources. Prefer experience in applying for a receiving grants from both government agencies and private foundations
  • Experience organizing donor campaigns, fundraising dinners and/or auctions
  • Comprehension with Microsoft Office programs, Google Drive, and Adobe
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar software
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Strong editing skills
