Special Event Cook

Department:  Culinary
Reports to:  Chef Kristen Schumacher, Director of Culinary Operations & Education
Classification: Part-Time, On Call, Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
As a Special Event Cook, you will be responsible for cooking at all stations to prepare food for
regularly scheduled events and deliverables such as: packaged Carnation Farm Stand foods,
weekly dinner clubs, pop-up farm events, large farm dinners and catered retreats, intimate
weddings, concert series and other events and programs hosted at the farm. This position will
play a role in helping create a thriving community-based hub for culinary, food, and farming
professionals. We source from our farm as well as many other Washington state farms and
producers and cook with products at their peak of freshness. You will work directly with the
Director of Culinary Operations, the Sous Chef and the kitchen team to execute memorable
farm to table events.
This is a part time on-call position that requires regular onsite attendance when work hours are
agreed upon to successfully carry out the job functions. This position also requires the individual
to work a flexible schedule and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced and team-oriented
environment. There is an opportunity for learning new skills and always cooking new and
seasonal menus. Considered candidates will have a passion and interest in food and
regenerative farming.

subject to the terms and conditions of the plan documents, if you work at least 30 hours per
week or 130 hours per month.

– Production of existing in-house recipes
– Prepare, label, and deliver fresh product on time 
– Maintain a very clean and organized kitchen, including daily, weekly, and monthly
cleaning projects
– Assist in maintaining main kitchen garden and culinary areas, from supplies and
conditions to dishes and garbage, compost and recycling management
– Ensure all food items are cooked and served at the correct temperature and under
sanitary conditions
– Assist with cooking classes, educational demos, and workshops 
– Work as part of a high-performing team to achieve programmatic goals
– Other duties as outlined by Carnation Farms’ management

– 2- or 4-year degree in Culinary preferred
– Minimum two years of professional culinary experience in restaurant or catering work

as hotels, retreats, and culinary conferences

– Knowledge of culinary terminology
– Knowledge of local and seasonal ingredients grown on-farm
– Food presentation and serving skills
– Ability to work individually or as part of a team, with good communication and
interpersonal skills
– Organizational skills, time management, cleanliness
– Ability to multi-task and work with a sense of urgency
– Food handlers permit 
– Alcohol service certification
– Valid driver’s License
– Ability to pass background check

Physical Demands:
– Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. frequently 
– Able to stand to 8 hours per day
– Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Hourly Pay Range DOE – $20 – $25
