DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Position Summary:
The Director of Finance is a partner with the Executive Director(s) in creating organizational financial strategy and provides oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities supporting Carnation Farms’ operations. The Director of Finance ensures that Carnation Farms has systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and provide strong internal controls. He/She is an energetic, principled, ethics-driven individual who is passionately invested in the mission of Carnation Farms. This person will be equally qualified and comfortable presenting before Board members and donors, and connecting and partnering with other staff members. He/She has strong, highly effective communication and people management skills, and a proactive and meticulous approach.

Provides Direction to: Accounting Manager, Office Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Develop long-term financial model and regularly monitor financial performance of the organization
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Directors; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and produce monthly budget versus actual reports
- Play a collaborative role on the Leadership Team, ensuring cost effectiveness and efficiency in delivery of our financial strategy
- Advise Senior Leadership Team and Board members on financial and organizational effectiveness
- Provide strategic guidance regarding the related policies, processes and systems necessary to manage the organization’s financial and administrative operation
- Prepare, analyze and present financial reports (income statements and balance sheets) in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial data to senior management in a useful and efficient format
- Monitor progress, prepare financial outlooks and financial forecasts and keep the Executive Director(s) and Leadership Team abreast of any changes
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
- Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit/accounting firms and review firms’ performance
- Develop appropriate investment strategies and oversee their implementation
- Produce financial reports for foundation and other funder grants; maintain shared grant reporting calendar due dates and submissions, including all required financial deliverables as stated per grant awards and contracts
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices
- Periodically update the organization’s accounting manual including internal controls
- Direct the day-to-day accounting operations including oversight of accounts payable and receivable, and maintenance of the general ledger
- Remain up-to-date on best practices in nonprofit finance, business systems and internal control measures, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations
Qualifications and Desired Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or university
- Bachelors or Advanced Degree/Certification in Accounting; CPA/MBA a plus with experience in non-profit accounting
- 6-8 years of accounting experience, demonstrating a clear increase in responsibilities
- Knowledgeable in GAAP, GAAS, and IRS Codes.
- Demonstrated ability with reviewing, creating, and implementing new systems and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software – QuickBooks and Microsoft Office experience required; experience with other forms of accounting and finance software a plus
- Strong experience managing non-profit reporting, budget development and analysis, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, banking, and form 990 income tax reporting
- Knowledge and exposure to Customer Relationship Management Software and/or Event Management Software databases a plus
- Well organized, logical thinking decision-maker with an analytical, detailed approach to researching and problem solving
- Strong people management skills; ability to manage team members and work collaboratively across the organization
