Culinary Instructor
FT Position
Department: Education
Reports to: Director of Agriculture Education
Position Summary:
The Culinary Instructor has the responsibility of preparing, and delivering cooking demonstrations, classes and workshops with ingredients grown on the farm, in a variety of programmatic capacities, to fulfill the Carnation Farms mission of transforming the way people want to eat. Considered candidates will have experience in culinary instruction and will work collaboratively within the Carnation Farms Education team. This is a full time position that requires the individual to work a flexible schedule and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment. This candidate must have a passion and interest in food and farming, and a talent for teaching people of all ages.
Responsibilities:
- Teach professionally standard culinary techniques to all ages of program participants
- Prepare and deliver demonstrations, classes, and workshops on the farm
- Identify and utilize teachable recipes, working with Education team members and approved by Department Director
- Teach and follow methods set out in the distributed recipes to promote clear understanding with participants
- Provide printed recipes to Marketing staff and program attendees
- Assist with getting recipes onto the Carnation Farms website, when necessary
- Positively influence attendance and participation by ensuring guests receive a fresh and entertaining learning experience
- Refer to, explain, and assist in, verbally selling Carnation Farms programs, events, and products
- Prepare any meals or snacks that accompany demonstrations, classes, and workshops, as needed
- Order food and supplies for demonstrations, classes, and workshops as needed with a focus on sourcing from the farm and preventing waste
- Be accountable for food cost and ensure that all orders for food and beverage are coded to maintain accurate and thorough tracking of costs
- Manage the Garden Center kitchen and culinary areas, from supplies and conditions to dishes and garbage and recycling
- Ensure that the spaces for all demonstrations, classes, and workshops are maintained in a clean and professional manner with highest standards of sanitation and cleanliness to meet or exceed health department regulations
- Ensure all food items are cooked and served at the correct temperature and under sanitary conditions
- Work as part of a high-performing team to achieve programmatic goals
- Other duties as outlined by Carnation Farms’ management
Required Qualifications:
- High School degree or G.E.D.
- 2 or 4 year degree in Culinary or Nutrition field preferred
- Minimum four years of professional culinary/education experience

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Food handlers permit
- Alcohol Service Certification
- Valid driver’s License
- Background check
Physical Demands:
- Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs. frequently
- Standing up to 8 hours per day
- Work in a fast paced environment
