Carnation Farms’ Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is based on a simple principle: connecting people to their local food source.

When you join our CSA you enter into a partnership that is dedicated to bringing fresh, organic produce directly from our fields to your table each week. Members support the farm by purchasing a Farm Share in advance of the harvest. Your membership helps pay for seeds, equipment, and labor in the early season when expenses are high and income is low. In return, the farm provides just-picked, seasonal produce each week, beginning in June.

Your commitment and trust ensure the survival of local agriculture by sharing the risk and bounty of the farm. By joining, you know exactly how, where, and by whom your food is grown while becoming an active part of the farm’s success and community.

What do I get each week?

A selection of certified organic, fresh-picked vegetables and herbs. This is not a box program. You select your share from a market-style pick-up that you pack in your own bag.

CSA News, our weekly e-newsletter, which features insights into the workings of an organic market farm and details on how to store, handle and prepare the produce in your share.

A chance to add on certified organic eggs and fruit

What kind of produce and in what quantity does a CSA Share include?

Members can expect to receive 6-8 varieties of produce per week, averaging 10 pounds; variety and quantity increase with the season. We grow 100 varieties of vegetables and herbs. While no two weeks are the same, an example share in peak season looks like this:

• 1 Bunch of Carrots
• 2-3 Cucumbers
• 1 Garlic Head
• 1-2 Heads Lettuce
• 1 Onion
• 1 lb of Green Beans
• 2 Pounds of Tomatoes
• 2 Pounds Summer Squash
• 1 Bunch Basil

How much is a vegetable CSA Share?

Vegetable shares are designed for 2-4 people (one size only) and cost $540 for 18 weeks of produce. A $200 deposit secures your space in our CSA program, with the full balance due by May 31, 2024. If you would like to set up a payment plan, please contact us at csa@carnationfarms.org . Add-ons are available at an additional cost, see details below.

Our CSA Program is 18 weeks, from June 13 to October 10, 2024.

What other Local Food Shares can you purchase as a CSA member?

Certified Organic Egg Share

Pick up 14 dozen eggs over the course of 18 weeks when you need them. You don’t have to pick up your eggs every week. You will get 14 dozen eggs over the course of the season. We will have a punch card to keep it all straight!

Our poultry is raised with the highest standards in animal care. Not only are we certified organic (which always means non-GMO), our hens live their best life on the farm in mobile coops that we move around our pastures. Different breeds of chickens lay different color eggs. Eggs are seasonal and yolks change with the seasons as the pasture changes through the year. Egg shares can only be picked up at the CSA, not at the farmstand. Shares are $105 ($7.50/dozen).

Okanogan Producers Marketing Association (OPMA) Organic Fruit

We partner with OPMA to offer certified USDA Organic, peak-of-ripeness cherries, peaches, plums, apricots, pears, and apples that can’t be reliably grown on the Western side of the Cascade Mountains. Fruit shares begin in July and go through the end of the CSA season (14 non-consecutive weeks). This is a true CSA with the OPMA growers. Each week they walk the fields and pick their fruit when it is ripe and send it to us to distribute to you! The shares are $168. You can order 1 or more, available with your farm share only.

What happens if I cannot pick up my share?

We understand that you might not be able to pick up your share at some point during our 18-week CSA season. One time during the season, you can request to pick up a double share at a later date. If you are unable to pick up your share a second time, please invite a friend to pick it up on your behalf. If you forget to pick up your share, please email us at csa@carnationfarms.org. We donate unclaimed shares to the local food bank.

Is Carnation Farms Certified Organic?

Yes, Carnation Farms is Certified Organic! Organic produce is grown without using conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients, bioengineering, or radiation. For more information about our organic production, please ask. We are happy to share our farming practices with you.

What crops are grown throughout the season at Carnation Farms?

Our beautiful valley creates a harvest that is unique from a typical CSA. The growing season in the Snoqualmie Valley is challenging and very short for many of the heat-loving crops that most people love and expect from a farm share.

From June through July, we plan to harvest sugar snap peas, radishes, salad turnips, kohlrabi, fennel, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower, and a variety of leafy greens like young chard, mizuna, arugula, lettuce, spinach, and baby kale. Lots of greens to start the season off right.

In July and August, we begin to harvest summer squash and cucumbers, onions, cabbage, and green beans. We keep up with our leafy greens and herbs, like basil, and root crops too. Heat-loving crops like tomatoes and peppers typically ripen late July through the first frost of the season.

In September and October, we harvest a variety of winter squash, pumpkins, beets, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and leafy greens to round out the season. Cooler season crops return like radishes and turnips too.

How can I contact you about my CSA share?

Please use our dedicated CSA email address to contact us: csa@carnationfarms.org.

We do our best to respond within 24 hours. Please understand that we spend most of our time in the field (our office) and not at a typical desk. Please contact us for any reason: to change your email address, to let us know about a vacation, to address problems and/or dissatisfaction with your share, and, of course, to let us know if you are happy with your share and have a nice experience to share.

How will you contact me about my CSA share?

We communicate with you by email. When you become a CSA Member, you are added to our CSA email distribution list, which is secure, private, and never shared with or sold to a third party. Please read your email from us, as we depend on email to communicate important information. Every week our Farm Share Members receive a newsletter with updates from the field, information about what’s in your share, recipes, and other farm-related events.

Is there a risk involved with participating in a CSA?

By participating in the Carnation Farms CSA Program, you wish to strengthen the local food system in the Snoqualmie Valley. When you purchase a share, you are helping to preserve local, small-scale, sustainable agriculture. You understand that due to the unpredictable nature of the weather and other environmental factors, there are no guarantees as to the amount or variety of produce you will receive on a weekly basis. You also understand that you are responsible for picking up your produce on the day of distribution and that missed pickups are forfeited. Refunds are not available once payment has been made.

If you have any questions about the CSA, please email csa@carnationfarms.org.
