2020 Spring Break Camp (for children in 3rd through 5th grades)
We are going to be hosting our first Spring Break camp April 13-17, 2020. See the event calendar for more information!
2020 Summer Camps (for children going into 2nd through 8th grades in Fall 2020.)
Camps are now live on the event calendar!
We empower kids to make better food choices through hands-on farm and cooking experiences during week-long summer camps.
On our 818-acre Certified Organic farm and outdoor classroom, we help campers understand where their food comes from through hands-on learning and play.
Kids will explore and discover in the garden by planting, harvesting, and digging in the dirt. They’ll learn about how a farm works, how plants grow, and spend plenty of time interacting with our livestock!
Children will harvest produce and learn how to prepare those ingredients for tasty snacks. We find that teaching practical cooking techniques results in a high level of engagement and develops skills that children can use for the rest of their lives.
- Campers will spend their time outside on the farm and in our indoor and outdoor kitchen spaces. They will identify plants (“That’s where a pickle comes from? ” said multiple campers last year), and learn how they are used in foods and other products.
- They will have hands-on, age-appropriate cooking sessions with our culinary instructor, using the foods they harvest from the garden to make tasty and healthy snacks.
- One afternoon of each camp week is reserved for pool time in our heated outdoor pool, a favorite camp activity!
- The camp finale comes on Friday afternoon in the show back for family/guests. Campers will create a Farmers Market for their guests, present produce and share their newfound love and knowledge of farm and food. These markets are held every Friday of the camp week, save the date!
Camps run from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided, campers must bring their own lunch. Transportation is available from the South Sammamish Park and Ride or the Redmond Transit Center for an additional fee.
*Please note: If you are looking to return to last year’s camps, we have changed the formatting this year to combine the best parts of our Farm camps, Farm-to-Table Cooking and Baking camps into one action-packed week-long experience, Tasting the Harvest Summer Camp.
Where is Carnation Farms?
Carnation Farms is located at 28901 NE Carnation Farm Road Carnation, WA 98014. We are 15 minutes east of Redmond and less than 30 minutes from all Eastside communities as well as Fall City and Snoqualmie.
What age does my child have to be to attend Summer Camp?
Our camps are based on grade level instead of age. The grades listed for each Summer Camp on our calendar is the grade the camper will be in for the school year of 2020-2021, in other words register for the grade your camper will be starting in September 2020.
Do you accept campers outside of the grade levels of a specific week?
On a case by case basis, we do accept campers outside of the specified grades, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
What does my camper need to bring to camp?
A lunch, water bottle (we have water refill stations), closed-toe shoes, and any medicines they may require, labeled with their name. Please dress your camper for weather.
Where do I go to drop off or pick up my camper?
There will be an email sent out in the weeks before camp with detailed directions to the pick up and drop off location. An authorized signature is required at both drop off and pick up.
How does weather affect camp?
Camps are held rain or shine. Activities may be moved indoors if raining heavily. In case of nearby lightning and/or thunder, activities are immediately moved undercover. On extremely hot days, we remind campers to drink lots of water and we spend lots of time in shaded areas with mandatory rest periods. Camp staff will take into account the weather when planning daily activities.
What time does camp start and end?
Each camp session is five days, Monday to Friday. Camp runs from 9am-4pm.
Are there scholarships available?
Yes! Our scholarships are first come first serve, based on need. Please email email@example.com for availability and eligibility requirements.
Do you have a Waitlist if sessions are full?
There is a limited waitlist available for each week of camp. Please contact us to add your child’s name to the waitlist. No payment is required to add your child to the waitlist. If a spot opens up, we will contact you to move your registration onto the official registration list, and complete the registration process.
What is the Friday Farmers Market? (This only applies to Summer Camp, not Spring Break Camp)
Our Friday Farmers Market is our way of showing what your campers have been learning and doing all week. The campers set up for the market, harvest produce from the garden and “sell” it. No money necessary! All the prices are chosen by the campers and are usually something along the lines of a telling a joke or solving a math problem. Keep an eye out for the invitation they will bring home on Monday or Tuesday of their camp week.
My child takes prescription medication daily. Can Carnation Farms staff administer my child’s medication?
Carnation Farms staff are trained in CPR, First Aid and Epi-Pen use, however there is no registered nurse on site. We have a policy of no medicine administration, however we can remind participants that it is time to take doses and we can hold those doses in a lock box. Medication must be clearly labeled with your child’s name. Campers with specific medical needs are able to attend with a caregiver at no additional cost.
What if there is an emergency?
Carnation Farms Farm Camp staff members are trained in CPR and First Aid and will provide first response in case of accidents or injury. All staff members carry cell phones to be used in case of an emergency and we will notify parents/guardians indicated on your registration forms as soon as possible.
What is your refund policy?
We offer a full refund if we are notified 8 weeks or more prior to the first day of camp; 50% if notified between 8 and 6 weeks prior.
No refunds are available if we are notified 6 weeks or less before the first day of camp.
